The studio was considered a continuation of the coursework completed in the previous term. Having attempted to describe technically demanding, time-consuming and abstract ideas on paper, we now had to develop it further in the form of a three-dimensional model. The additional dimension, material properties (thickness, processability, resilience) teached us to work with limitations and how to turn them to our advantage. The idea or emotion set as the starting point had to be realized in 1-3 mm cardboard within five days. The time limit forced us to start experimenting immediately without any previous sketches.
The Crackling:
The form of the model came quickly: I chose the layout of the building analysed in Architectural Graphics as the basis. The respective repetitions led to layers which were multiplied into the model. The structure of the model is bouncy, but it may also be pressed together into a strong block or an airy cardboard layer. When the position of the elements is changed, the breaking of the material makes a crackling sound that I find the most appealing aspect of the model.

Watch with the sound on.
